LASIK, or laser in situ keratomileusis, is an outpatient procedure which uses a laser to cut and reshape the eye in order to improve vision. LASEK, or laser-assisted sub-epithelial keratomileusis , is similar to LASIK. The biggest difference is in the depth of the cut. LASIK involves cuts into the stroma, while LASEK does not. LASEK cuts only into the epithelial layer, the top layer of the cornea, which is above the stroma.
Both types of surgery take about 15 minutes per eye, and both can restore or improve vision significantly. Most people who have laser eye treatments achieve 20/20 to 20/40 vision. If your work requires 20/20 vision, or you would be disappointed with imperfect vision, you should notice that laser eye treatments don’t always result in perfect vision.
Laser Eye Treatments can range from £500 to £1900 per eye. The cost varies according to the precise type of surgery you choose, the prices charged by the individual surgeon, the prescription, and
In addition to the reality that laser eye surgery doesn’t always produce perfect vision, there are other possibilities to be aware of. Sometimes a second round of surgery is required. Dry eyes can be a result, though this is often temporary. Laser eye surgery is best for those needing a slight correction. Attempts at greater correction can result in corneal haze: a lack of clarity in vision.
Fewer than 30% of people undergoing laser eye treatment have any problems after six months, but it is important to be aware of these possibilities.
